The International Year of Light in Scotland

January marks the start of the UN International Year of Light 2015 and one of Scotland’s greatest ever scientists is at the centre of the celebrations.

One of the reasons for the celebrations taking place this year is the 150th anniversary of James Clerk Maxwell’s theory of classical electromagnetism. A theory that forever changed our understanding of the universe.

The International Year of Light 2015 global initiative adopted by the United Nations to raise awareness on how optical technologies are crucial to solving humanity’s biggest challenges.”
