New solid materials are required all the time to meet our changing demands – screens and batteries for our phones and electronic devices, materials for delivery, remediation and management of energy and even for mending our bodies.   But how do we design new materials – and is it design or serendipity?   In (today’s) talk Prof Jan Skakle from the University of Aberdeen will explore some examples of materials design to illustrate “how things work” at the atomic level.

STUFF WORTH KNOWING talks explore topics worth knowing about. Scheduled with convenience in mind, these talks are FREE and suitable for 16+ years in general.
