Aberdeen Science Centre launches corporate team building packages

The newly revamped Aberdeen Science Centre (ASC) has launched a new team building event package, aimed at encouraging colleagues who have been working at home to get together to solve STEM challenges.

ASC unveiled its transformational new look in November, following a £6million refurbishment which includes dedicated event spaces for corporate meetings and educational engagements in the Shell Learning Zone.

The centre, at the Tramsheds on Constitution Street, has been completely modernised and extended as part of a major project to create an aspirational science centre which reflects the STEM priorities for both industry and education.

The half-day team building sessions include refreshments and free time to explore the 60 new interactive exhibits, as well as the option to add on access to meeting rooms for more formal presentations or workshops.

Teams will be challenged to complete a series of fun, competitive tasks, including building a self-supporting arch in the fastest time, assembling the slowest car, designing the most protective casing for a falling egg and deciphering a code for a virtual escape room.

Event planners can choose from three purpose-built meeting rooms as well as exclusive use of the upper exhibition floor. The Proton and Neutron Rooms can be used independently for up to 50 delegates each or opened up to accommodate around 110 guests in theatre style seating, while the Electron Room can hold approximately 50 delegates.

The large mezzanine floor can be used for conferences or receptions for more than 200 guests. State of the art technology has also been installed, enabling hybrid meetings thanks to video conferencing capabilities.

Erin Flett, Business Development Manager, said: “Aberdeen Science Centre is unrecognisable following the extensive redevelopment and we are proud to have created a truly unique venue, which we hope will provide inspiration to event delegates, who will also have the chance to try out our 60 interactive exhibits during breaks, networking sessions or at lunchtime!

“We all know 2020 was an extremely challenging year for both events and for businesses in general and we hope the team building sessions and corporate spaces will bring everyone back together in a fun and inclusive way.

“To offer some peace of mind we have introduced a flexible cancellation policy which allows organisers to reschedule their event if government restrictions mean it cannot go ahead as planned.”

Erin added: “As well as creating a more interactive event in a venue which will get guests talking, our clients are also supporting a STEM charity which aims to inspire generations of children and adults.”

On-site catering is provided by Grub Fresh Food, which runs the café on the ground floor of Aberdeen Science Centre, while conference furniture and equipment is included as standard.

All delegates have free access to the centre’s exhibits, which are are aimed at all ages and are themed into six zones: Energy; Space; Life Sciences; Make It, Test It; and a special area for the under-6s

Activities include The OPITO Theatre of Energy – the UK’s first immersive experience of its kind – and RoboThespian, an interactive humanoid robot sponsored by the centre’s Digital Futures Partner, Equinor.

They support ASC’s commitment to inspire a lifelong interest in science, by creating engaging experiences which are fun, informative and educational.
