Get digital with Aberdeen Science Centre

Aberdeen Science Centre is celebrating National Digital Learning Week with a variety of digital-themed activities.

National Digital Learning Week is an annual event established by Education Scotland.

Running this year from Thursday, May 11 to Wednesday, May 17, it encourages school pupils and teachers to embrace the advancements in digital technology in education and showcases the benefits of online learning.

The events at Aberdeen Science Centre include a free admission day on Sunday, 14 May, which is already fully subscribed.

The free day, which is sponsored by Equinor, an international energy company headquartered in Norway, will see visitors to the centre take part in several digital and coding related activities including a coding workshop involving micro:bit computers, constructing Lego robots and playing with Dash Bots, real-life interactive toy robots. The event is now fully subscribed.

Throughout the week, more than 300 school pupils will attend Equinor-sponsored class visits to the centre, to take part in robotics workshops.

Lynda McConnach, Public and Digital Programme Coordinator at Aberdeen Science Centre, said: “Now in its sixth year, National Digital Learning Week is a celebration of the modern way of learning, which blends in-person and online learning to create a more accessible method of education for pupils all across the country.

“We are running a variety of fun and interactive activities across the week, including the fantastic Equinor-sponsored free-day, several school class visits to our centre and community events. If you are interested in finding out more about coding and the online world, Aberdeen Science Centre will be the perfect place to get started.”

Equinor’s sponsorship of the free day and class visits builds on five years of its continued support of Aberdeen Science Centre.

Younger visitors to the centre can also get involved in the digital fun, with coding-themed Little Explorer Days running on Fridays in May, including unplugged tabletop activities, crafts and storytelling sessions.
